Architectural Record MIPIM Awards from last year

Mixed use & overall winner: One New Change, London, UK designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and Sidell Gibson Architects- St Pauls view

While doing some research for a real estate project I found the MIPIM awards, a competition established 9 years ago to promote good design, related to MIPIM a market for international property trade that takes place in Cannes every year. As this event is aimed to real estate and property professionals, the award gives visibility to what we usually see on architectural magazines to another -very important- audience. In previous years it has recognized works such as the Meydan Umraniye Mall by F-O-A or the Mountain Dwellings by BIG, two programs in which market dictates, but where good design can give added value.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2010 / Jean Nouvel

A look back at Jean Nouvel’s Serpentine Pavillion via Archdaily:

This just in from the Serpentine Gallery – Jean Nouvel’s pavilion is complete!  In honor of the Serpentine’s 40th Anniversary, Nouvel’s pavilion is a bold and strong expression comprised of lightweight materials with dramatic cantilevers.  Designing the pavilion allows international architects to experiment with different architectural ideas, and over the years, the commissions’ varied aesthetics have added to the thrill of the exposition.  Nouvel’s bright red pavilion  is drastically different from SANAA’S subdued silvery curvillinear form of 2009, and its vivid color contrasts the park’s greenery, immediately drawing the eye.

Seguin Island / Ateliers Jean Nouvel

Taking a look back at some recent works and proposals by Jean Nouvel:

Jean Nouvel was chosen as the lead urban architect and coordinator for the Seguin Island project in July of 2009. Here we are sharing with you the Ateliers Jean Nouvel team master plan for Seguin Island in , France.

A diverse group of programs will make up the spaces, total surface area of 300,000 sqm, including cultural, retail, social facilites, parks, gardens, terraces serving as a destination for both residents and tourists. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010 and final completion is expected for the end of 2023.

Reconstruction Plan for Haiti / Trans_City Architecture and Urbanism
